August, 2002. Unsuccessful. Arrived after closing.
December 26, 2005. Arrived at the security entrance in the middle of the afternoon. Had to call someone to let me in the building. A friendly state trooper popped his head out the door and said, "you visiting today?"

I nodded.

"Well, come on in," he beamed. "Let me show you around... but I will ask you to sign in."

So I ended up on the nickel tour with a couple of blue hairs from Austin, Texas. I'd been holding it back since Missouri and I was beginning to break a sweat. Fortunately, once we were in the house chamber, the trooper and the blue hairs started talking about restaurants in Austin and I was able to slip away.

Most striking thing about the men's room I entered on the second floor was that the door to the janitor's office was inside the men's room.

I squatted. It hesitated. Then it was through in one quick movement. Unusual for me: I prefer the slow-and-steady approach.

I slipped back to the ground floor and signed out.
